Understanding Land Ownership in Kenya to Help Restore Lands

In partnership with The World Resources Institute, Code for Africa, and collaborators from Stanford University we hope to leverage AI to map land ownership to boost Kenya’s efforts to restore degraded land in an equitable way using NLP where we are working on creating a knowledge graph of land ownership in Kenya, generating a list of organizations in the form of a ‘Watch List’ to identify if there is any corruption with land ownership.

Preventing Malaria Infections Through Topography and Satellite Image Analysis

The partner organization, ZzappMalaria, has been in the Top 10 of the prestigious IBM Watson XPRIZE AI for Good competition. ZzappMalaria is dedicated to malaria elimination. Working on helping reduce the cost of malaria elimination campaigns by ensuring that field workers locate and treat contaminated water bodies. Based on available online satellite images, topography, and ongoing data from the field workers, we developed an algorithm to find the areas in which stagnant water bodies (malaria mosquito breeding sites) are likely to exist.

The partner organizations, Solar AI and ENGIE Factory are on the mission to hyper-scale the deployment of distributed solar and the transition towards 100% renewables by modernizing the way rooftop solar is sold. The project falls under the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 7, which is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Managed a task group responsible for building a model to detect rooftop and obstacle from satellite images using Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques(Mask RCNN, YOLACT).

In this project, the award-winning Red Dot Foundation partnered with Omdena’s innovation platform to build an artificial intelligence solution to better understand domestic violence and online harassment trends during COVID19.Data mining and analysis regarding an increase in online harassment and domestic violence in the time of COVID19, creating a database and map trends of increase in incidents of domestic violence as seen on publicly available forums and Led a team in NER labeling and modeling for extracting information using Natural Language Processing.
